Choosing A Company To Design Your Kitchen...

In most households, the kitchen is the most used room, generally due to the recent trend towards social convergence around open-plan kitchen/dining rooms. The days of a whole family sitting around the television in the living room have left us and in the modern day, in modern style kitchens, most social meetings within a household happen in the kitchen. This tendency has had an effect on interior design trends as there has been a huge upsurge in recent years in kitchen refurbishments. In fact, the kitchen is one of the most important points people consider when viewing potential property purchases so having your kitchen re-designed, if it is done well, can make a huge difference not only in your home environment, but also if you decide to sell in the future.

When having a kitchen designed, you, as the home owner, need to be totally integrated into the progression of design development for that room. You should have a controlling view on what appliances, cupboards and work surfaces should be where and how the new kitchen is orientated. A good kitchen design company will recognize this, though even if they do, there are a few questions that you need to ask before you start the ball rolling.

You should first find out what you will get from the design process. Will you be exhibited a range of design solutions in differing styles, or only one or two of the designer’s favorites? Will you be given a brief run down on material and appliance costs so that if you are on a tight budget, you can mix and match components? Also, it would be useful to be able to view samples of previous designs so that you can judge their ability and creative flair better.

Another factor you need to be aware of is the designer herself or himself. Firstly, are they experienced in kitchen design? Are they able to be contacted via email or mobile phone if you have a query outside of the design studio? Do they keep up with design trends by visiting interior design fairs, conventions or trade shows? Can they visit the site to discuss design points or is everything only done in-house? It would obviously be great if every answer was ‘yes’ but be aware that if it is, it may not mean that he or she is a good designer.

Finally, you need to find out about installation. There are some companies that will cover every stage of the process, from design to installation by using their own designers and their own laborers and sourcing their own materials, though this can, but not always, be expensive. Other companies will sub-contract the work out, or possibly only be able to offer the designing of a new kitchen. By having every stage handled by the same company, this can make things much more straightforward, especially if you decide you want to change something during fitting.
